Startup Spotlight: Karavel — Automating Financial Promotions Compliance from First Draft to Continuous Surveillance

Company Name: Karavel

In one sentence, what does your company do?

Karavel builds AI compliance tools that help regulated businesses review, approve, and continuously monitor their financial promotions, from first draft through to ongoing surveillance.

How did you come up with the idea for the business?

The idea came directly out of my time as Head of Compliance. Processes like horizon scanning and marketing asset reviews were a constant source of frustration, but after looking into existing SaaS tooling to ease the pain, I was left even more frustrated—they just created more work! Those experiences made me determined to build something better, and that became Karavel.

What achievement are you most proud of so far?

Building out a multi-jurisdiction regulatory knowledge base spanning the UK, US, EU, and Ireland in our first year, at a depth and pace that would typically take a much larger team.

Meet the team

What makes your solution different from others in the market?

Karavel wasn't built by engineers guessing at what compliance teams need. As a former Head of Compliance responsible for approving thousands of financial promotions, every workflow in our AdCheck product reflects the real bottlenecks compliance and marketing teams hit daily. It's the difference between a generic AI wrapper around a rulebook and a tool built by practitioners who have felt the regulatory pressure firsthand.

What problem are you solving for the industry?

Financial promotions are one of the most manual, resource-heavy, and risky corners of compliance. In practice, most firms barely keep up with pre-approval, let alone ongoing post-publication monitoring. Karavel automates the review of financial promotions against relevant regulatory frameworks, catching issues before they go live and providing continuous surveillance to turn a slow bottleneck into a fast, scalable, and defensible process.

What trend do you think will have the biggest impact on your industry over the next few years?

Regulators themselves adopting AI. We are already seeing regulatory bodies using AI tools for supervision to conduct investigations far faster than traditional sampling allows. As regulators gain the ability to detect breaches in near real-time, firms relying on manual spot-checks will find themselves increasingly exposed, making AI-driven compliance essential.

Where do you see your company in the next 3-5 years?

Our vision is for Karavel to close the loop on the entire lifecycle of regulated content. In three to five years, Karavel will be the single platform that takes a firm from drafting and approving a financial promotion through to continuous, automated monitoring once published—all powered by the same underlying regulatory intelligence.

If readers remember one thing about Karavel, it should be:

"We've reviewed the promotions. We've felt the pain. We built the fix."
