I am the head of DevOps at the Barclays global headquarters, in the Chief Security office. My focus is on building the platforms to enable rapid role out of security services to safeguard the bank. This includes delivering scalable resilient infrastructure, with an ethos of ‘everything as code’; from configuration to governance.
Data availability is becoming increasingly important across all layers in the bank, as it is well known that AI and ML models are only as good as the data quality that underpins them. That said, there exists an even more impactful dependency which throttles the ability to front strong AI services: that is the infrastructure. A strategy that focuses on superior model quality but neglects the run platform could end up in a situation where they are unable to serve their solution fast enough, resulting in wasted investment and reputation damage. A superior AI platform, requires both quality in design, scalability to meet customer demand and a level of resilience that appears seamless regardless of the service, be it threat intelligence or instant credit decisioning.
My experience driving DevOps and AI transformation across banks in Lloyds, RBS and Barclays has lead me to thinking about resilience by design, automation as a standard and recursive improvement in the goal of delivering security at the speed of DevOps.
