Mariana Aires de Abreu is head of Compliance and Legal Teams of Banco BNI Europa, a new Challenger bank based in Portugal focused on innovation and Fintech partnerships creating an ecosystem of financial products and services. Mariana’s role involves providing proactive and pragmatic advice on all legal and regulatory matters concerning the Bank’s activities. Within the Legal Department’s activities, she manages multiple internal and external lawyers to deliver and structure complex transactions in Portugal and abroad, namely through the establishment of partnerships with international fintech companies. Mariana worked as banking and finance lawyer in both international law firms and investment banks, thereby having wide and vast experience in finance and banking law. Within the Compliance Department, she manages AML and regulatory compliance activities. Before joining Banco BNI Europa, she worked as senior lawyer in international law firms, structuring, dealing and negotiating finance and banking transactions, and as in-house legal counsel providing legal & tax services to the companies belonging to the Banif Investment Banking Group. She holds a LLm degree on international business law (Masters in Law) from Católica Global School of law, a Master degree on international trade law from Universidade Complutense de Madrid and a law degree from Universidade Católica Portugal – Law School.
