As VP of Global Payments for Airbnb, Sam is responsible for overseeing the development and evolution of Airbnb’s payments platform. Airbnb Payments is the largest facilitator of people-to-people payments in the world. By allowing the exchange of funds between Guests and Hosts, our payments platform plays a key role to support Airbnb’s mission to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere. We facilitate payments to and from more than 190 countries using 63 currencies, allowing Guests to pay using their preferred local method of payment and currency, and Hosts to receive payments in their local currency of choice. Before joining Airbnb, Sam spent 7 years at Visa as SVP of Global Digital and Consumer Products. In this role, he was responsible for leading the reimagination and reinvention of Visa’s foundational credit, debit, and prepaid solutions for the digital age and the era of always-on connectivity and devices. Prior to Visa, he spent eight years at PayPal as Vice President of Global Product and Experience, the company’s most senior Product executive responsible for all product management and design functions and activities globally. Sam has also held positions with Deloitte Consulting, Agency.com, Tradeum/VerticalNet, and Quantum Consulting and holds a BA in economics from UC Berkeley and an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business.
