The Blast Radius Has Expanded - Governance and Compliance in an Agentic AI Environment

02 Dec 2026
Agentic AI changes the risk profile of financial services by introducing systems that can act, adapt and escalate at speed. Traditional governance models may struggle when decisions, workflows and exceptions become more autonomous. The speed in which incidents can occur and the potential damage that they can cause has gotten a lot bigger – so the question becomes how we deal with this expanded ‘blast radius’ and what this means for leadership and operations. Defining the new risk perimeter: Understanding how autonomous actions, interconnected agents and third-party systems expand compliance exposure and operational impact. Designing controls for AI that acts: Establishing permissions, human intervention points, monitoring, audit trails and escalation protocols for agentic workflows. Maintaining accountability at scale: Clarifying responsibility across compliance, risk, technology and senior leadership when automated systems influence financial outcomes.
