Dr. Claire Norman-Maillet

Counter-Fraud Expert & Academic Researcher
Dr Claire Norman-Maillet is a multi-award-winning counter-fraud specialist, with over 12 years' experience in financial institutions covering fraud operations, strategy and risk. Her career to date spans a range of consumer products including credit, foreign exchange and cryptocurrency, having both led both first- and second-line fraud and AML functions, as well as steering one previous employer successfully through a Section 166. Bridging industry with academia, Claire brings this combination to her research and talks. Awarded her PhD in January 2026, receiving a rare 'pass with no corrections' at defence, her doctoral research presents the first empirically grounded study of internal fraud within UK FinTech banks. Claire's work challenges longstanding and widespread industry assumptions and, with this, she is widely recognised for her ability to translate complex theory into practical, operationally relevant frameworks. Additionally, Claire is a prominent advocate for disability inclusion and neurodiversity. As someone with ADHD and a stammer, she brings a distinctive depth, honesty and authority to her work - speaking candidly about stigma, identity and systemic assumptions within corporate cultures. Her lived experience, combined with academic research and industry expertise, allows her to bridge conversations around risk, culture and inclusion in a uniquely integrated way. Claire is an international keynote speaker, having delivered talks in four continents. Her presentations are known for being thought-provoking, evidence-driven and unapologetically human - blending operational insight with personal narrative and humour to drive meaningful organisational change.
